Understanding what the arts bring about
The arts break into our common beliefs about good education. Even without requiring us to immediately change our pedagogical habits. Simply starting to look differently at what we usually do opens up previously unimagined possibilities. I use the temporal arts as a metaphor and free space to explore what it means to learn and teach.
Transforming to an education of attention
My approach to educational challenges begins with an attitude of attention to each other and the world. It is closely aligned with how we experience reality in our daily lives, leaving room for the individual differences of all those involved. All this starts with an artistic attitude. Together, let’s explore what that can mean.
An integrated approach
My approach is based on sensory and embodied experiences that are rooted in the temporal arts, with music as their prototype. I think of learning as becoming skillful with the world. I regard teaching as the process that pursues shared attention among participants.
A radically new view of education
The arts are the glue that connects diversity with inclusion, inclusion with understanding. In this respect, I see school as the socially relevant collaboration of young and old. In this school, the core is not so much preserving the past, but imagining the possible.
