About me

I am an independent curator of arts in/as education. Previously, I was artistic coordinator at Musica Impulse Center (BE), where I designed formats that promote musical participation and development for all ages and in different contexts. I have also been a violin and creative music teacher, besides pedagogical coordinator in arts education. From the beginning of my career, I have been involved in a wide range of educational projects in formal and non-formal contexts and have contributed to several publications on music education. I have worked in the arts sector, in schools and in teacher training programs.

As a teacher and performing musician, I quickly became aware of the inconsistencies of mainstream (music) education, which often lead to confusing ideas about ability, learning, memory, imagination, notation, artistry and talent. In the process of zooming out and gaining cross-domain insights about these issues, I became incurably fascinated by musicality as a human phenomenon, as well as the potential impact of music (making) on a personal, interpersonal and group level. I translated and explored the relevance of this viewpoint in diverse educational and artistic contexts.

I became aware of the strong relationship between the connecting power of music and the development of musical expertise. It is clear that the phenomenon we call music, in all its forms, has a deep integrative power and sheds light on what it means to be human, to learn and to teach.
